SoTL 101: Introduction to SoTL and Teaching + Learning Inquiry
What is the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)? How can SoTL benefit students, instructors, and the academic community? How does one engage in SoTL?
By the end of this one-hour, one-time seminar (this is not part of a series; we offer more than one session throughout the semester), you will be able to:
- Describe the scholarship of teaching and learning, including principles of best practice;
- Reflect on the value of SoTL and identify its value in one’s own context;
- And learn how TILT can support a SoTL journey at SFU.
The session will provide suggestions for engaging in research about teaching and learning as well as introduce you to our team and our new approach for supporting SoTL at SFU.
Who should attend?
- Instructors who have worked with us before – learn about our new approach and resources available to you**
- Instructors who want to learn more about inquiry-based research / Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
- Graduate or undergraduate students interested in working as research personnel on teaching and learning research projects
**Note: You will only ever have to attend SoTL 101 once. We ask that all former and new partners and collaborators attend, even if you have already conducted an ISTLD-funded project.
Each semester we offer a number of sessions at different times.
