Using Hotmail/Outlook - Create a Whitelist
To ensure you don’t miss out on emails from Â鶹ÊÓƵAlumni, you can create a whitelist (a safe senders list) in a few steps. Here are some instructions we found that you may find helpful.
Method 1: Via Settings (Web Browser)
- Sign in to your Outlook.com or Hotmail account.
- Click the Settings cog icon in the top-right corner.
- Select View all Outlook settings at the bottom (if necessary).
- Go to Mail > Junk email.
- Under the Safe senders and domains section, click + Add.
- Enter the email address (e.g., alumni@sfu.ca) or the entire domain (e.g., @sfu.ca) you wish to whitelist.
- Press Enter and click Save.
Method 2: Marking Existing Emails as Safe
- Open your Junk Email folder.
- Find the email from the sender you want to whitelist.
- Right-click the email and select Mark as not junk or Not Junk.
- Alternatively, open the email and click the I trust link in the yellow alert bar, or click Mark as safe next to the sender's name.
Tips for Effective Whitelisting
- Whitelist Domains: To allow all emails from a company, enter just the domain (e.g., sfu.ca or @sfu.ca).
- Check Blocked List: Make sure the sender is not in your Blocked senders list, which takes precedence over the safe list.
- Add to Contacts: Adding a sender to your Outlook Contacts often acts as a whitelist.
