Andrew Matz
Research Assistant
Andrew is a fifth-year Sustainable Energy Engineering student at Â鶹ÊÓƵ (SFU). His work focuses on real-time power system simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using OPAL-RT Technologies platforms. His research interests include power system analysis and modelling to support the large-scale integration of renewable energy resources.
Andrew is a member of the Gulf Power team with the Power & Energy Systems team as a stakeholder for a capstone project. Gulf Power aims to develop an interactive software tool that examines and optimizes DER installation for the Gulf Islands in BC. This tool would determine the feasibility and connection methods of proposed DER installations and provide recommended locations and necessary grid upgrades for seamless installation.
