Tulio Coura

Ph.D. Student

Tulio Coura is a PhD student in the Power and Energy Systems Research Group at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, under the supervision of Dr. Mariana Resener. He holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering from PUC Minas, an MSc in Energy Management from the New York Institute of Technology, and an MBA in Innovation and Project Management from PUC-RS. Before starting his PhD, he gained more than five years of professional experience in the energy and utility sectors, working with power distribution, electrical equipment, and quality engineering.

His research focuses on the integration and coordination of distributed energy resources in modern power systems. His PhD investigates grid-feasible flexibility coordination at the transmission–distribution interface, with emphasis on photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage systems (BESSs).

His work focuses on Feasible Operating Regions (FORs), optimal power flow, battery operation, multi-aggregator coordination, and fairness in flexibility allocation. His broader interests include smart grids, active distribution networks, energy storage, and power system optimization. His PhD research has also included international collaborations with Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile and HTW Berlin in Germany.
